What a dignified, splendid City Liverpool was in those days, inspite of poverty. Still is, even after so many buildings were crushed & burned in WW 2

Born on Gwendoline street Dingle in 1936 (before most of you were even thought of) I am one of the very few people left that saw with my own eyes the aftermath in our city from massive Ariel bombing (for those of you that don't know Gwendoline street is 500meters from the Mersey and the heavily bombed docks). I met all the Liverpool greats, Shanks, Toshack, Hughes and St John. in 1960 I watched The Royal Iris arrive for the first time on the River Mersey, saw The Red Kestrel the last ship to leave Cammell Lairds hit the water in 2019, went to the cavern in 1961-62 (never saw the boys) and in 1989 I wept for the 96 (YNWA),

Wonderful collection of photographs. My mother and her family lived in the Dingle and we used to visit the grandparents most school holidays. Lots of great memories of the city.

It makes me sad to see old pictures of my lovely home city. I left in 1992 and STILL get homesick. I visit family etc but this makes me sad. Added to that the music, nearly set me off again. 57yrs old but do not feel that. My heart is still home in Liverpool. RIP to those lost after I left. Time really has gone too quickly. 🙏🏼😞

Thank you for a superb trip down memory lane your pictures take me on. Born a Scouser in 1947 but left in 1963 to join the RAF and never returned after much global travelling and settling down elsehere. I remember so many of these places from my early years and have enjoyed the nostalgia of your slide show.

I departed Liverpool in the late sixties to seek my fortune in the United States. I've lived a wonderful life of great success, having achieved everything I could possibly have wished for. From my early life of humble beginnings living in Speke, to my business adventures traveling the America's as an adult, I never forgot the lessons my beautiful Liverpudlian parents taught me. Living in Liverpool was the catalyst that propelled me to achieve in business and I seriously doubt if any of this could have been accomplished had I been raised elsewhere. An exceptionally beautiful windswept city, that in spite of its many changes will always have a special place in my heart. ❤ Much love from the United States.

Great memories. My grandad was a police sergeant at the Police station in Lark Lane. My cousin owned Salon Bleu, the hairdressers on the left going up towards the park. I lived in Parkfield Road and Marmion Road. My mother and I both worked part-time in Jack's fruit shop, next to Ransom's jewellery shop on the corner of Waverley Road. My father was born in a flat over what has been Platt's the butchers and is now Keith's wine bar. I also worked on Saturdays in Monty's sweet shop which was nextdoor to Paul's the Barbers. My sister and I went to Brownies at the old Clinic which is now Maranto's. How it has changed !!

Does anyone remember the school for disabled children in the 1950s at the bottom of Dingle lane? It was on the right hand side, a wooden building a short distance down a narrow street.

My Aunty attended that school. Either Plevna or Bosnia Street. If you watch this video (ua-cam.com/video/T7_E0wjnc64/v-deo.html) and go to 13:45, the school was at the bottom of one of the streets on the left. Not sure which one.

Many of the buildings and the rows of terraces you can see here are still present, and you are still able to recognise these places in the photographs. The curve of the hills and corners also give you a big clue to where you are.
